Market Arcade is Newport's oldest Arcade. The second oldest in Wales. In 2018, Newport City Council secured funding from Heritage Fund, Townscape Heritage, to restore and regenerate the city's Market Arcade.

The Victorian grade II listed structure is Newport’s oldest surviving arcade, the second oldest in Wales and the13th oldest in the UK. Sadly, locked in a spiral of decay and decline, the future of one of Newport's key heritage assets came to be under threat.

However, the project is now reconnecting owners, traders and the people of Newport with the historic significance of the arcade and its role in the growth of of the city.
Market Arcade is being redefined as a vibrant and viable commercial attraction within the city’s conservation area. It hasn't been easy, but we are getting there.

Volunteers

The project is well underway now and we need volunteers. We are looking for story gatherers, storytellers, meeters & greeters and more. If you would like to get involved, please get in touch via  market.arcade@newport.gov.uk

Tours & Talks
We frequently present tours, talks and other activities at the arcade. We can also come out to speak to your group or society too.
